There will also be a house for the resident manager at the near end of the Company's property, and quite a large colony will quickly spring up around that part of the peninsula. For the present, however, the Company has perforce taken a lesson from other ventures of the ambitious type, and is going forward with the utmost caution and economy. Not a single stick will be put up nor a cent expended that is not absolutely and immediately necessary, until the "area of production" is in full swing and the venture on which practically all Hongkong depends is assured of permanent prosperity.
Unfortunately this auspiciously started factory is not recorded as having met with any great prosperity and has to be ranked with other enterprises which failed to pay their way and passed out of existence.
